Malaysian Delegation in Jaffna to Explore Investment Opportunities
[Updated :: 2010-07-10 10:15:55 Hours]

A delegation from the Federation of Malaysia Sri Lanka Organization (FOMSO) arrived in Jaffna Sunday (04.07.2010) on a special mission to explore possibilities of assisting the government-initiated development programme for the north in the aftermath of the separatist war waged by the LTTE.

The visit of the FOMSO representatives will serve as a decisive factor in social and economic development in Jaffna since they hope to encourage Malaysian investors to open their businesses in Jaffna on their return after the visit.

Preliminary studies for relevant investments were to be concluded during their meeting held in Jaffna library with business community members and community leaders in Jaffna. Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SF-J), on instructions of Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, facilitated the meeting providing transport for members of Jaffna Business Community from all over the peninsula, arranging the venue and other necessary requirements. Municipal Commissioner Mr. Saravanabahu who played a pivotal role in conducting the meeting made a special note of thanks to the Army for its exceptional service in coordinating the meeting during which Malaysian delegation and Jaffna businessmen freely shared their views on matters pertaining to expanding avenues for future investments in Jaffna.

They also donated a large stock of classics and other books on various disciplines to the Jaffna library and Kopay government school to encourage the readership among students and library users under the programme of “Building Communities through Literacy” on Tuesday (06). Token presentation of books to library authorities by donors took place during a ceremony held at the library auditorium Tuesday morning with participation of a distinguished gathering including some Catholic priests and Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.

The delegation earlier on their arrival in Jaffna on Sunday (04) met Jaffna Bishop Rt. Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Saundranayagam, Commander SF-J, Government Agent Mr. K. Ganesh and Mayoress Mrs. Y. Pathgunaraja
