Petta” Assesses Post Conflict Development in Jaffna

To review how the normalcy had helped revive Jaffna and shed light
on areas that need more attention in the aspect of administration,
security, banking and education, an open discussion was arranged
by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) on Friday (18.06.2010)
at the Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office functioning under
the Security Forces Headquarters (SF-J).
The programme named “Ethul Petta” discussed the subjects
concerned in wider scope with participation of senior officials
in respective areas.
At the outset, Ven. Meegahajandure Seelavimala Thero summarised
the history of the Sri Naga Vihara and explained social services
being carried out by the temple for the welfare of citizens and
outsiders touring Jaffna on pilgrimage.
Brigadier B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo, Brigadier General Staff SF-(J), educated
the forum with statistics about resumption of farming, fishing and
trade in Jaffna that gave minimal production due to terrorist activities
in the recent past.
Assistant Project Director of the Jaffna District Secretariat Mr.
S. Sudarshan, Additional Provincial Director of Education Mr. V.T.
Selvaratnam, Assistant General Manager People’s Bank Mr. T.K. Anandarajah,
Operational Manager Northern Province Bank of Ceylon Mr. Sivanandan
and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Nevil Padmadeva from Jaffna
DIG’s office attended the discussion.
The recorded programme will be broadcast by SLBC National channel
on Saturday 26th June at 10.30 a.m.
