Those in Need; SF-J Sets Example

In its effort to uplift the livelihood of Jaffna community who lived
with bitter experience nearly for three decades due to war, and
to improve educational standard of the Jaffna younger generation,
Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) recently started two new welfare projects
on guidance of Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.
a pre-curser to these projects, scholarships were given to ten selected
poor students from two schools in Jaffna on Sunday (01.08.2010)
during a function held at Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office
students from J / Urumpirai Hindu College and one student from Jaffna
St. Anthony’s College received their passbooks with Rs. 1000/- of
bank deposits from the Commander SF-J Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe,
the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Scholarship recipients will get
Rs. 1000/- every month from donors who wish to assist them until
they complete their education.
addition, parcels of valuable school items were presented to twenty
students by the SF-J Commander who urged the parents to be interested
in giving education to their children, being the future of our country.
the same occasion, a stock of backyard poultry was distributed among
ten families with low income to support their living and to help
eradicate the malnutrition among their children. The project of
the SF-J to be extended to many areas in Jaffna soon will benefit
8000 families with low income. Each family will be given twelve
hens and two fowls free.
Agent Jaffna Mrs. Imelda Sukumar, Mayoress Mrs. Y. Pathgunaraja,
General Officer Commanding 51 Division Maj. Gen. Janaka Walgama,
senior officers of the Departments of Education and Animal Products
and Health, principals, teachers and parents attended the function
organized by Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office Jaffna.
