The “Pongal” festival of Veerapathpir Karer Hindu temple at Kilaly was held recently after thirteen years. The Kovil was not used for religious activities since 1995 due to LTTE activities and the troops of 9 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry deployed in Kilaly under 52 Division brought it to former condition after renovating with assistance of civilians in the area.

Over one hundred devotees received blessing of the deity taking part in the first “Pooja”. Army officers, other ranks and senior citizens in the area were also present on the occasion.

In the meantime, a temporary shelter constructed by the soldiers of 9 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Light Infantry was handed over to a poor family. The donation was made to its recipient who made a request from the Army for assistance to build a temporary shelter until he moves into a new home.
