National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), recognized by
the University Grant Commission (UGC) as a degree awarding institute
will soon open its latest study centre in Jaffna widening education
opportunities for Jaffna students craving for higher education in
the field of Business Management after completion of G.C.E. A/L.
A
team of senior officials of the NIBM headed by Director General
Dr. A.E. Weerasinghe who was on research tour prior to opening the
new branch visited Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SF-J) to
educate the military authorities on their intended project. Representing
the Commander SF-J, Brigadier General SF-J Brigadier B.C.J.A.F.
Rodrigo and Civil Affairs Officer Palaly Major Lal Nanayakkara took
part in the discussion held at the Headquarters SF-J Monday (19.07.2010).
Opening
of an NIBM branch in Jaffna will satisfy a long-felt educational
need through which students could obtain an internationally recognized
academic certificate which may drive them for greater employment
opportunities here and abroad.
NIBM
is affiliated to a number of foreign universities and has been awarding
degrees in Business Management, Information Technology and Arts/Interior
Design for 40 years. It has branches in Colombo, Kandy, Kurunegala
and Galle.
Before
the war ended, only a handful of people from elite class in Jaffna,
who could afford expensive traveling by sea or air to Colombo, or
who had relations in Colombo or abroad had opportunity of following
advanced academic courses of this nature.
However,
with the opening of the A-9, education and business opportunities
began to flow in to benefit thousands of students and businessmen
in the peninsula.
