Welcomes Peace Envoys from South with High Sentiments

In recognition of cultural and social equality and signifying the
brotherhood between Southern Sinhalese and Northern Tamils, a group
of young people launched a “Sama Pada Yathra” (Peace March) from
Point Dondra to Point Pedro (PPD) with blessings of Hon. Parliamentarian
for Hambantota District Mr. Namal Rajapakse, founder of “Tharunnyata
Hetak” youth movement.
Messengers of peace who walked under the banner of “Giruva Patthuwen
Thal Arambata” from down south across the island for 27 days received
brotherly welcome extended by Jaffna people from Palai town up to
PPD town on Monday (15).
last phase of this Peace March started on 15th June from Ushan in
Jaffna after observing religious rites. Dwellers gathering on roadside
expressed their feeling of friendship and brotherhood by lighting
crackers and waving hands throughout. Hindu religious leaders, senior
Administrative officers, school children and villagers had arranged
refreshments and special poojas at Kodikamam, Varani and Manthikai
junctions to encourage the peace-loving youth marched up to PPD
bringing the message of peace and unity.
the end of brief but pompous welcome at PPD where each other exchanged
sentiments of love and brotherhood for some time, white pigeons
were freed to the air symbolizing the lasting peace.

Lal Perera coordinated the “Pada Yathra” in Jaffna.
historical Peace March with a distance of 626 km, organized for
the first time after the LTTE, that terrorized the country for thirty
years, was entirely defeated by armed forces with leadership of
His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapakse as the Commander
in Chief, started from Tangalle in down south on 19th May.
