Thalaiady St. Anthony’s Church Holds Annual Mass after Four Years

Another Catholic church left in isolation since 2006 due to LTTE domination at Thalaiady in 55 Division area held its first annual Mass after four years on 12th June 2010 on completion of necessary renovations done by Army troops serving under the 551 Brigade.

Surrounding area of this Catholic church of St. Anthony was cleaned, buildings were colour washed and decorated with flags by the troops of 16 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment with assistance of some villagers.

The first Service was conducted by Rev. Fr. Michael Saundranayagam and a few Catholic priests and nuns on Saturday (12) morning.

At the end of the formal religious observances followed by a religious procession with attendance of nearly 350 devotees, Sri Lanka Army offered refreshments for the priests and all participants.

General Officer Commanding 55 Division Brigadier A.L.S.K. Perera, some senior officers and other ranks were present.
