US Delegation Meets SF-J Commander

A four-member US delegation on fact-finding mission visited Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna on Tuesday (15) evening to get a comprehensive idea of ongoing post conflict development activities in Jaffna.

After being received by Colonel General Staff Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Lieutenant Colonel W.M.G.C.S.B. Wijesundara, the visiting US team was accompanied to SF-J conference hall where Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe welcomed the delegation and a detailed briefing on Security Forces’ involvement in government development programmes and humanitarian de-mining in Jaffna followed.

The delegation headed by Ms. Samantha Power, Special Assistant to the US president and Director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of the National Security Council, was keen on areas of resettlement and de-mining programmes and also of other International Non Governmental Organizations activities within the peninsula on various social and welfare activities.

The visit took place in the aftermath of the meeting between Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and the US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Ms. Patricia Butenis on 9th June.
