We express our emotions and feelings in different forms such as
words, tear, smile and body movement etc. some geniuses skillfully
use their pen and brush to do this. The CIMIC team during their
journey across the peninsula to meet special people in Jaffna
met a youth who made painting a part of his life.
Palaninathan
Prasath, a twenty nine year old teacher of Nachchimal Kovilady,
Karanavai northwest, Velvettithurai is living with his mother
P.Vathsalathevi, two brothers and one sister, all younger to
him. The elder sister is married. His beloved father Mr. K.
Selliah passed away in 1995 due to heart attack.

“I
studied at American Mission School, Uduppiddy. Drawing is my
hobby. I wanted to learn more of this interesting subject. When
I was selected to the University of Jaffna, I had a chance to
learn fine arts,” Prasath aired his voice.
“I
mostly use canvas and water colours for my creations,” he continued.
“When I
got a free time I used to take my brush and paints to draw something,”
Prasath told us.
He has painted portraits of some world famous persons and beautiful
sceneries. Prasath has decorated a few Kovils in Jaffna with
his colourful paintings. Malasanthy Pillayar Kovil of Nelliady
on Jaffna – Point Pedro road is one such Hindu Temple.
In January
this year Prasath got an appointment to Panrikkueithakala Government
Tamil Mixed School, Omanthai, Vavuniya as an assistant teacher.
With hope of meeting this talented youth again, we took leave
from Prasath and his family.
Before our departure, he gave his contact numbers to us. 077
