Three Jaffna Cricket Umpires Come up to National Level

Three day training camp held for Jaffna cricket umpires at St. John’s
College Jaffna concluded today (24.04.2010) afternoon with awarding
of certificates to all participants.
The training programme organized by Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna
(SFHQ-J) in order to encourage the players and to spread the sport
in the peninsula began on 21st.
During the final day ceremony, Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda
Hathurusinghe gracing the occasion as Chief Guest at invitation
of Jaffna Cricket Umpires’ Association, gave away certificates to
23 local umpires in the earlier trainee batch, who were qualified
as national umpires.
Brigadier General Staff SF-J and Vice Chairman Sri Lanka Army Cricket
Association Brig. B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo, Manger Cricket Umpiring Sri
Lanka Mr. Ronie Goonaratne and the Principal of St. John’s College
Rev. Fr. N.J. Gnanaponrajah also participated in giving away certificates.
In appreciation of the cooperation extended to Sri Lanka Army by
Sri Lanka Cricket Umpiring to promote cricket in Jaffna, Maj. Gen.
Hathurusinghe, on behalf of the SF-J, presented a special memento
to its manager Mr. Ronie Goonaratne.
The “end of course test” for the latest batch will be held tomorrow.
