Army Cricketers Gift Their Prizes to Brother Players of Jaffna District Team

It was followed by another friendly match played between famous cricket players in Jaffna and SF-J menís team who trounced the Jaffna team scoring 54 in 10 overs.

Prizes for best batting, best bawling and best fielding were secured by S. Mirando of the Jaffna District team, Lance Bombardier Jayasuriya and Gunner Sanda Kelum of the Army respectively while the same prizes for women went in the same order to Sanuja Ravi of the Jaffna womenís team, Private Neluka Kanthi and Private Seneviratne of the Army.

Certificates for all rounder male and female players were awared to Lance bombardier Senaratne and Private Chaturika Kumari of the SF-J teams.

Most alluring event was that all valuable prizes won by both SF-J teams were gifted to Jaffna District teams amidst big applause of the spectators as a token of lasting comradeship.

This rare occasion that exhibited the escalating unity between the civilian population and the Army drew a huge crowd of cricket fans to the Central College ground.

Winners and runners up were awarded with trophies and certificates by the northern Headquarters (SFHQ-J) of the Sri Lanka Army.

Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe RSP ndc IG graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Government Agent and District Secretary Jaffna Mr. K. Ganesh, Senior Army officers serving in Jaffna, all the principals of leading schools in Jaffna, senior officers of the Provincial Education Department and sports officers in the District were among the invited guests.
