“Bakmaha Ulela” Draws Thousands of Civilians

Thousands of civilians in Nelliady area gathered to Kunjalkadu ground
on Friday (30.04.2010) to experience and share the joy of festivity
when Sri Lanka Army organized a “Bak Maha Ulela” during this festival
month after a lapse of many years.
A range of sports events specially seen during April festival season
had been organized under the patronage of General Officer Commanding
52 Division Brigadier Lal Perera and Commander 524 Brigade Colonel
Opsitha Perera for civilians including small children who enjoyed
the programme throughout the day
Exhilarating evening show full of music and dancing added colour
to the award ceremony which followed. Colombo “Apsaras” and Sri
Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) beat group mixed music to songs sung
by Sirasa Super Stars and other vocalists while performances by
dancing troops of Mohanraj and Asanthi Nadeesha thrilled the crowd.
Commander Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SF-J) Major General
Mahinda Hathurusinghe attending the evening function as the Chief
Guest gave away prizes to winners of the Bakmaha Ulela”. The crowd
of over 10000 present at the Kunjalkadu ground were startled when
the night sky over Nelliady was illuminated with glamorous firework
display which was a novel experience for many, specially children.

SF-J Brigadier B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo, Commander 3 SLSR Lieutenant Colonel
Sampath Bandara, Divisional Secretaries of the area, Medical Officers
of the Manthikai hospital and office bearers of the Trade Association
in the area, who donated prizes for winners in collaboration with
Nestle Lanka Ltd. witnessed the grand show.
