Jaffna Civilians & Soldiers Celebrate Sinhala & Hindu New Year

Different military formations established under the Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna organized a series of New Year festivals for Jaffna civilians and soldiers who stayed away from their homes during the festival season.

New Year festivals organized by the 55 Division at Vetthalaikerni on 11th April and the 51 Division at Chunnakam on 17th drew large crowds of civilians living in surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, SF-J Headquarters organized a grand festival to celebrate the Sinhala and Hindu New Year at the SF-J playground for soldiers. The ceremony comprised of a range of traditional sports and games such as climbing greasy pole, weaving cadjans, passing eggs, eyeing the elephant, musical chair competition, eating buns, marathon and crowning the New Year Princess.

In the evening, western group of the Sri Lanka Army conducted a colourful musical show that thrilled the audience of officers and other ranks.

Winners were awarded by SF-J Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and senior officers at the end.
