A three day coaching camp to give advanced knowledge on cricket
umpiring to Jaffna umpires commenced on Thursday (22.04.2010) at
St. Johnís College with participation of some experts in umpiring
from Colombo and Jaffna.
The programme is hosted by Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna in
coordination with Jaffna Cricket Umpiresí Association.
At the end of the training course, the participants have to sit
a test which will qualify them to act as national umpires. Approximately
thirty members of Jaffna Cricket Umpiresí Association which was
founded in 1961 would follow the training course conducted by Senior
Instructors Umpiring Sri Lanka Cricket including Mr. K.T. Francis
and Mr. J.G. Pushparajah, revealed its Secretary Mr. A.S. Nishanthan.
He also appreciated the cooperation extended by Jaffna Security
Forces Headquarters in organizing programmes of this nature to uplift
the standard of sports in the peninsula.
Opening ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Staff Security
Forces-Jaffna and Vice Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Cricket Association
