[Updated :: 2010-05-06 13:30:30 Hours]

A new bureau to assist Jaffna civilians hoping to travel to India commenced its functioning on Wednesday (05.05.2010) at No 89, Brown Road, Jaffna.

This “India-Sri Lanka Visa Application Centre” was declared open by His Excellency Ashok K Kantha, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka at a brief ceremony attended by a gathering of distinguished guests.

Panel of officials representing Indian High Commission in Colombo will collect Visa applications of people at this new centre and send them to Colombo Visa office which will hopefully complete the processing applications within three working days. Necessary guidance in preparing and submitting applications are also provided by this office in order to avert the delay occurred in following wrong procedures by applicants.

The HC during his address said that even people from other areas in the north will also be benefited by opening of this new Visa Centre which possibly strengthen social, religious, economic and education linkage between the two countries.

Members of Parliament representing Jaffna, Officials of the Indian High Commission in Colombo, Senior Administrative, Military and Police officers were present on the occasion.
