A workshop on 'Social Drama' was conducted by Mrs. Rathna Pushpa Kumari, Director Social Solutions (Mind and Behavior), for soldiers serving in Security Force Jaffna Area of Responsibility at the auditorium of Headquarters Security Force (J) from 08 June to 10 June 2017. The workshop was organized by Headquarters Security Force, Jaffna on the direction of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander Security Force, Jaffna in order to enhance the skills of soldiers on social drama and performance art. After the workshop a street drama was performed by the participants of the workshop. This event was significant since this is the first ever opportunity that soldiers of SL Army joined hands with civilians and rehabilitated ex-LTTE members to stage a street drama known as 'Jaya Sri'...................
Troops of 18 SLLI Organized 'Poson Dansala'

Troops of 18 Volunteer Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry under Command to 551 Brigade organized a 'Poson Dansala' on 10 June 2017 evening for all communities in Tikkam area. It was declared open by Brigadier Dammika Jayasundara, Commander 553 Brigade, as the Chief Guest. Besides, religious dignitaries, Staff Officers of 55 Division, Commanding Officers of respective battalions, government officials of Point-Pedro area were present at the occasion. Approximately 3000 civilians enjoyed the dinner at the Dansala.A significant feature of the event was the displaying of Jathaka Story related to Lord Buddha. The civilians appreciated the efforts of the Army troops in Thikkam which indicted the peaceful co-existence of the Army and the people in Point-Pedro area.
Troops of 23 Gemunu Watch organized 'Poson Dansala'

Troops of 23 Gemunu Watch under Command to 552 Brigade organized a ‘Poson Dansala’ on 09 June 2017 evening for all communities in Pallai area in the close proximity of pallai Town. It was declared open by Major General Anura Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding 55 Division, as the Chief Guest. Moreover, religious dignitaries, Staff Officers, Commanding Officers of respective battalions were present at the occasion. Approximately 3000 civilians enjoyed the dinner at the Dansala.
At the same time army troops donated dry ration packs to 10 needy families (each worth of Rs.2000/-) who are living in Pallai area. Further, 7 stationary packs were also donated to the students of 7 families in the same area.
Jaffna Troops Celebrate Poson Poya

Several military formations under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna organized a series of events to celebrate the Poson Full Moon Poya Day on which Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka. Among those events, Dansal organized by the 51, 52 and 55 Divisions catered lunch for more than 1500 civilians. A charm Bodhi Puja was organized symbolizing the simple living style preached by the Lord Buddha's Doctrine, under the directives of Commander Security Force Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi at the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Palaly Bo Maluwa on Thursday (8) evening.In the meantime, troops of 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment under Command to 553 Brigade organized a ‘Poson Dansala’ for all communities in Iyakkachchi area on Thursday (8) Morning. The 'Dansala' was declared open by Colonel Shantha Herath, Commander Mechanized Brigade and catered breakfast and lunch for civilians.
Jaffna Troops Donate Blood

Responding to a request made by the officials of Jaffna Teaching Hospital, a blood donation campaign was organized by the Headquarters Security Force, Jaffna in coordination with 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps on 08 and 09 June 2017 at the hospital premises. During the campaign, 110 Army personnel serving under Security Force, Jaffna area of responsibility donated blood to fulfill the urgent requirement of blood for the patients waiting for surgeries. The campaign was organized on the directives of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, the Commander Security Force, Jaffna. Doctor M. Sivanija and Doctor J. Thavaraja with their staff assisted in the campaign to make it a success.

This was highlighted during the Certificate Awarding Ceremony which was organized marking the termination of the Basic English Language Course No III conducted for Non - Commissioned Officers serving under the Headquarters Security Force, Jaffna.The ceremony was graced by the presence of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, the Commander SF (J) as the Chief Guest of the event held on 09 June 2017 at the auditorium of Headquarters Security Force (J) with the participation of Commanding Officers and NCOS from all under command Units. A meditation programme was organized by Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) for officers and soldiers who are serving in the Jaffna Peninsula in order to enhance their spiritual life. The programme was conducted by Professor Lalith Ranathunga from 30th May 2017 to 02nd June 2017 at the Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna).
During the programme, troops were educated on the teachings of the Lord Buddha and emphasized the necessity of meditation for a healthy and a peaceful life. Moreover, the participants of the programme were very enthusiastic to understand the outcome of meditation and most of the participants requested to repeat the programme in the future too ............
Maliyadewa Boys' College on an Educational Tour to Jaffna Peninsula

The students of Kurunegala Maliyadewa Boys' College paid an educational visit to the Jaffna Peninsula on 26 and 27 May 2017. The educational tour was arranged by the Commander Security Force Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, as a response to the request made by the principal of the college. 575 student of grade 10/11 and 21 teachers participated in the tour. An awareness programme was conducted for the Tri Forces personnel serving in the Security Force Jaffna Area of Responsibility. The programme was held at the auditorium of Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna) on 25th and 26th May 2017. The workshop covered different sections of disaster management and included an in-depth training on the Recommended Practices developed for floods and droughts. The workshop was brought together by a team of professionals of the Disaster Management Centre, Ministry of Health, the Department of Meteorology, the National Building Research Organization and the National Disaster Relief Services Centre. The opening ceremony was presided by Major General Anura Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 52 Division.

Troops of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry was able to protect 'Kovalam Paddy' in Karei Nagar Island from wild fire with the support of 100 soldiers on 17th May 2017. Approximately 2 acres of land have been destroyed due to the wildfire. Such an incident occurred for the first times in this year. Elders at ‘Shanthi Nilayam’ State Home for Elders in Kaithady had a day full of fun with women soldiers of Sri Lanka Army 7th Battalion (7 SLAWC) when they paid a visit to their home recently.
Under the direction of Maj Geethika Rankotge, the Commanding Officer 7 SLAWC, the lady Officers and women soldiers accompanied a Calypso band along with them in order to make their visit a memorable one. The women soldiers had a cordial discussion with the staff, while a vegetable soup and tea were served to entertain the elderly parents. Later, the women soldiers made arrangements to play an English movie and enjoyed with them. Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi assumed duties as the Commander Security Force (Jaffna) - SF (J) at auspicious Scheduled at 10.30 hrs on Thursday (30) March 2017. Major General Mahesh Senanayaka who held the office of the Commander Security Force (Jaffna) - SF (J) more than one year relinquished the appointment on 28th March 2017 to assume duties as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army. To commemorate the 67th Army Day, 512 Brigade has organized a Walk on 13th November 2016. As such, 17th Battalion the Gemunu Watch started from Bastian Junction, 14th Battalion Gajaba Regiment from Thirunelveli and 2nd Battalion Light Infantry Regiment started their march from Kalliyankadu. All Officers and soldiers who participated this walk and the marches were terminated at Sri Naga Viharaya at Jaffna. Thereafter, all marches got together and walked up to Jaffna Fort. As per the announcement by HE the President, the Government has come forwarded to provide durable solution to resolve the IDP issues in Jaffna. IPKF Soldiers Killed during Operation Pawan Remembered

A special ceremony was held on Monday (15) at Palaly to commemorate IPKF soldiers who laid their lives for the sake of territorial integrity of their friendly neighboring country during Operation Pawan in 1987. Consul General of India in Jaffna Mr. Shria Natarajan and Commander Security Force Jaffna Major General Mahash Senanayake placed wreaths of flowers at the monument erected at Palaly in honour of the fallen IPKF war heroes. Operation Pawan was conducted against LTTE by the 10th Para Commandos and a section of 13th Sikh Light Infantry. However the IPKF soldiers were shot dead by the LTTE midway their landing during a heliborne assault in the midnight of 12th October 1987. Later, the Palely IPKF monument was built in memory of those war heroes...................

Awareness programme was conducted for members of the Sri Lanka Army female soldiers by the Mental Health Unit of Army Hospital, Narahenpita with coordination of Directorate of Psychological Operations, a two day workshop was organized by Headquarters Security Force Jaffna – HQ SF (J) on “Social Issues Faced by Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps” at SF (J) auditorium.
The programme held from 09th to 10th August 2016 was attended by 12 Officers and 80 women’s soldiers from different Army formations in the peninsula. Lectures, presentations and discussions held during the workshop mainly aimed at educating participants on sexual health, sexual behavior, women’s rights and sexual misconducts............

The Sri Lanka Army Female Soldiers Organized a Medical Camp for Parents of Rehab Ex-LTTE Members

Women soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army from 7th Battalion Women’s Corps (7 SLAWC) organized a free medical camp for parents of Rehabilitated EX-LTTE members in collaboration with the Army Base Hospital, Palaly on 31st July 2016 at Vocational Training Centre, Thellippalai. Around 100 people were offered the free medical treatment at the medical camp throughout the whole day. The medical camp provided free tests for Health check-up, Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Dental check-up and counseling & treatment under the consultation of trained Doctors. Three Doctors from Army Base Hospital, Palaly and two doctors from 4th Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (4 SLAMC) volunteered for the medical camp including Eye Clinic. Medicines were also distributed at the camp free of charge...........

On the request of Jaffna Teaching Hospital Authority, 17th Battalion Gamunu Watch (17 GW) organized a blood donating campaign to fulfill the requirement of the hospital Blood Bank on Friday 01st July 2016.
Commanding Officer 17 GW Lieutenant Colonel Lakshan Pereira and 64 Soldiers serving under the 17 GW at Kayts donated their blood when the Jaffna Blood Bank ran short of blood required by the patients waiting for urgent surgeries.

201.3 Acres of land in Tellippalai Divisional Secretariat areas adjoining the Palaly Army Cantonment were handed over to the rightful owners by Governor of Northern Province Hon Reginald Cooray and Secretary to the Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi at a ceremony held in Kankesanturai on 25th June 2016. Sri Lanka Army has initiated a long term programme under the government’s resettlement project for Northern civilians displaced due to the war. China Ambassador on his Maiden Visit to Jaffna Meets Commander SF (J)

China Ambassador to Sri Lanka HE Yi Xianliang and a team of diplomatic officials of the Chinese embassy paid a curtsey call on the Commander Security Force Jaffna – HQ SF (J) Major General Mahesh Senanayaka on 15th June 2016. HE Yi Xianliang, on his first visit to the Headquarters SF (J), Palaly received a warm welcome on his arrival and was offered opportunity to acquire more information on Jaffna and its present situation. During the meeting Commander SF (J) gave a brief idea on fast infrastructure development of Jaffna and basic needs of the people. He further briefed on the amiable civil military coordination prevailing in Jaffna and measures the Army has taken to assist government machinery and Jaffna populace initiating numerous welfare projects to uplift their economy, health, education and other needs as a part of Reconciliation process. .....................

Swiss Ambassador Meets Jaffna Commander

Ambassador of Switzerland in Colombo HE Heinz Walker-Nederkoorn, during his visit to the Northern Province, had a cordial meeting with Commander Security Force Jaffna – SF (J) Major General Mahesh Senanayaka on 14 June 2016. Having received on his arrival to the Headquarters SF (J), Commander updated him on present situation in the Jaffna peninsula. Meantime, had an amiable discussion in related to Reconciliation programme which elevate the livelihood of Jaffna people. During the meeting Commander SF (J) explained military involvement in nation building project such as national security, prevention of smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc. Further, he explained on going training programme to educate and enhance knowledge of the military personals to face for hybrid threats in future.....................

In another community welfare project under the Civil Military Coordination (CIMIC) programme being carried out by the Security Force Jaffna - SF (J), organized a donation of school items for needy children in Point-Pedro area. With sheer intention of quenching the thirst for education of Jaffna students and Reconciliation programme, members of Old Anandians’ group 75/80 in collaboration with Cargills Bank donated school items for 600 needy students on 12th June 2016 at Sivaprakash Vidyalaya, Viyaparamullai. Most significance of this event is one of the leading Buddhist school in Colombo, Ananda Collage has pay their gratitude to Jaffna students, in the first time of resent history. The school items was donated to Ketpely G.T.M. School, Melepuloly Sivaprakash Vidyalaya and Roman Catholic School children, where most of them are represent internally displaced families under the Reconciliation programme. .....................

Commander Security Force (Jaffna) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Senior Officers of the Tri Forces, Senior Police Officers and total of 66 beneficiaries consists of 16 from Army, 05 from Navy, 02 from Air Force and 43 from Police have participated for the event.....................

Vadamarachchi Football League team equal an exhibition match against the Security Force Jaffna team on 04th June 2016 at football ground - Valvettithurai. Soccer is the most popular game played by the youth in Jaffna. On the direction of the Commander Security Force Jaffna - SF (J), the exhibition soccer match was organized by Headquarters SF (J) in collaboration with Vadamarachchi Football League, in the effort of Reconciliation programme to uplift the civil military relationship in Jaffna peninsula.....................

Second session of Socio Economic Welfare Coordinating Workshop for rehabilitated female EX-LTTE members was held on 04th June 2016 at Christian College, Kopai. With the initiative of the Headquarters Security Force Jaffna – HQ SF (J), women soldiers of Sri Lanka Army 7th Battalion Women’s Corps (7 SLAWC) organized cordial meeting with female Ex-LTTE members and collected details of basic requirement which required to uplift their life standard. This is the second attempt of the programme organized by the HQ SF (J) with the sheer intention of establishing faith and understanding their livelihood....................

Headquarters Security Force Jaffna Facilitate Navalar Tamil School Student’s visit to Palaly Airport

Farther strengthening the course “Reconciliation” in the North, Headquarters Security Force Jaffna (SF-J) facilitated a visit of a group of School children to the Palaly Airport on Thursday (2) morning. Arrangement for the visit of students of J/Kopay Navalar Tamil School were made by the Commander Security Force Jaffna, Major General Mahesh Senanayake in coordination with Sri Lanka Air force on the request made by Mr. K Tharmajeelan, Principal of the School. It was the first time that this group of School children visited the Palaly Air Port on an Educational purpose after three decades. Five teachers and fifty two students had join the visit. Sri Lanka Air force treated all of them with snack and soft drinks.....................
