A Lecture on Fitness and Nutrition at Security Force Headquarters -Jaffna

Ms. Tiffany Batsakis MSC, a registered dietitian and a personal trainer from the United States America conducted a lecture on Fitness and Nutrition for the Officers serving in Jaffna on 12 February 2018 at the Auditorium of the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna. Ms. Tiffany visited Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on the invitation of Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna to educate Officers on the importance of Fitness and Nutrition. She emphasized the values and benefits of maintaining body fitness and shared her knowledge on nutritional counseling during the lecture. More than 230 Officers from different formations in Jaffna area attended the lecture. Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna presented a memento to Ms. Tiffany at the conclusion of the lecture in appreciation of her valued contribution.
Blood Donation by the Troops of 51 Division

The 51 Division in SF (J) organized a blood donation programme at Kopay - Jaffna and more than 150 Army personnel donated blood on 6th February 2018 to mark the 70th Independence Day celebrations. Coast Conservation Programme in Jaffna

The 55 Division organized a beach cleaning programme in order to celebrate 70th Independence Day with the guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Division Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne in line with the concept of the Commander Security Force - Jaffna Major General Dharsana Hettiarrachchi's coast conservation programme. Programme was conducted along Kaddaikadu to Chundikulam costal line and approx 3 km stretch cleaned on o4 February 2018 and more than 160 Army personnel participated to the event.
Re-Opening of Kankesanthurai - Point Pedro Road for Public Transport

Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna re-opened the road patch that runs between Kankesanthurai and Point Pedro along the AB 21 road for public transportation on 6 February 2018 after 28 years.
Due to non availability of this road access, the civilians living in both sides (Kankesanthurai and Point Pedro) were compelled to make a long detour around 35 km by private vehicles and approx 50 km in public transportation facility. This reopening of the AB 21 road will ease off all the difficulties which were experienced by the civilians in Kankesanthurai and Point Pedro areas. Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Roshan Seneviratne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Mr Nagalingam Vedanayagam, District Secretary Jaffna, senior military officers and a few other government officials and civilians were present to join the 1st bus trip from Kankesanthurai to Point Pedro.

A volleyball tournament was organized to mark the 70th Independence Day celebrations and the tournament commenced on 2nd February at Kachchai Vakaiadi playground. The final match was played between Volley Kings team Vs Sima Puththur Junction teams on 4th February 2018. At the programme the veteran instructor emphasized that Sports Nutrition is a segment of medicine that deals with physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. Sports nutrition is the study and practice of nutrition and diet with regard to fuelling our athletic performances. The 55 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna celebrated its 2lst anniversary with several programmes on the directions of Brigadier Jayantha Gunarathne, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 55 Division Headquarters during December 15-23. Anniversary events included a blood donation campaign responding to a request for blood from the Jaffna Teaching Hospital Blood Bank. The event took place on Friday (15) and more than 103 soldiers including Officers donated blood during the campaign. "Vidya" Foundation founders, veteran actress Mrs. Swineetha Weerasinghe, Mr. Nandalal Malagoda, Mr. Mohan Shankar and Mrs. Wadani Shankar arranged a donation campaign to commemorate School student Vidya Sivaloganathan who was brutally murdered in 2005. The main concern of the "Vidya" foundation is to uplift the education standard of poor students in all over the Island. Moreover, this event was coordinated by Headquarters Security Force - Jaffna on the direction of Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, Commander SF (J), to award scholarships and sports items for 10 deserving students of the Pungudathive Maha Vidyalaya in Jaffna on 27 December 2017 at the HQ SF (J) auditorium. An awareness Programme was conducted by Warrant Officer I (Retired) K. R. A. Senevirathna, on "Responsibilities of the SNCO's "for all Senior Non Commissioned Officers who are serving under Security Forces (Jaffna) area of responsibility on 29 and 30 November 2017 at the Auditorium of Headquarters Security Forces (Jaffna).
Subsequent to the programme for SNCO's another programme was conducted to Junior Officers on "what is expected from an officer by the Officer Ranks". The Officers /SNCO's who attended the programmes highly commended the opportunity given to them to learn many things about the Army and ethics related to the Army. Warrant Officer I (Retd) K. R. A. Senevirathna served at the Sri Lanka Military Academy closer to 10 years as an instructor to a considerable number of Officer Cadet Intakes prior to his retirement from the Army.........................

Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, the Security Force Commander - Jaffna commenced a Super Luxury bus service on 01 November 2017 for the Army troops proceeding on leave from Jaffna to Colombo and Colombo to Jaffna daily. This welfare measure was initiated in collaboration with a private bus company to provide a comfortable journey for the Army personnel to proceed on leave.
