live together in harmony,” said His Excellency the President Mahinda
Rajapaksa addressing a massive crowd at Chavakachcheri in Jaffna
on Monday (06). Attending a grand ceremony organized to declare
open two ward blocks and four doctors’ family quarters at Chavakachcheri
hospital. HE the President further said that not only health facilities
but others such as education, electricity, water and infrastructure
for agriculture are to be provided to all in need. As an honour

Soldiers Donate Blood & Plant Trees on 64th Independence Day

A blood
donation campaign was organized by the 513 Brigade of Uduvil on
Saturday (04) to mark the 64th Independence Day Anniversary. Nearly
125 soldiers serving under the 513 Brigade commanded by Brigadier
Pradeep Silva donated blood to the Jaffna blood bank at Mc Leod
hospital in Inuvil. Impressed by the soldiers’ act of donating blood,
a few youths, who have come to Jaffna from the south to work under
a private engineering company constructing Jaffna roads, also joined

Flags flutter in Jaffna on 64th Independence Day

The 64th
anniversary of country’s gaining independence was celebrated by
citizens of Jaffna peninsula hoisting flags at their residences
and fixing them vehicles on the Saturday 4th. National flags were
seen flying at all government buildings, private institutes and
business places in the main city, suburbs and even remote areas.
A group of patriotic citizens in Manippay area signifying the freedom
being enjoyed by the people in Jaffna organized a peace march from
Uduvil to Marathanamadam junction to coincide the main Independence
Day celebrations held at Oyamaduwa

Fishing
Nets & Safety Lamps given to Kilaly Fishing Families

To assist
the livelihood of newly resettled civilians in Kilaly area, fifty
fishing families of KN 95 Kilaly Grama Seva Division were donated
fishing nets and safety kerosene lamps on Thursday (02). Four
fishing nets were given to each family by the Hon. Parliamentarian
Mr. M. Chandrakumar with coordination of the Civil Affairs Office,
552 Brigade of Iaykkachchi. The Civil Affairs Office distributed
100 safety kerosene lamps among the same fifty families on the same
occasion. A set of office equipment was also handed over to the
Kilaly Fisheries Society.

of friendship once again touched the hearts of Jaffna students when
a group of Jaffna school girls and boys received a warm welcome
at Sri Jayawardanepura Girls’ College, Kotte during their
three-day education tour to Colombo. With coordination of the Civil
Affairs and Public Relations Office Jaffna, the 52 Division organized
this tour for 78 students, 08 teachers and 11 parents of school
in 52 Division area. They left Varani in Jaffna on 25th January
and were received by the students of Kotte Sri Jayawardanepura Girls’

Students Receive Donation of Books & School Bags

With view
to assisting the education of students of low income families at
Ketpeli in the 522 Brigade area of Meesalai, Sri Lanka Army arranged
a donation to them with coordination of the People’s Bank.
The area is still under development and most of families cannot
afford to buy necessary school items for their school-going children.
Members of the Buddhist Association of People’s Bank, responding
to the request of General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier
Anura Sudhasinghe came forward to help 160 students in Ketpeli area
by providing a pack of exercise books and a school bag to the value
of Rs. 1500/= each. Meanwhile, 25 teachers present on the occasion

school education of children in the area, organized a donation of
school items for 61 parentless students of J / St. Henry’s
College, Ilavalai on Saturday (07). Those students have lost their
parents due to war or some other reasons and are continuing their
education amidst financial difficulties. The 515 Brigade with guidance
of its Commander Brigadier Buvaneka Randeniya arranged the donation
of school items worth over Rs. 185000/= sponsored by the Commercial
Bank. A stock of sports ware was also donated to the school on the

Expanded for Environmental Enthusiasts at Chundikulam Birds Sanctuary

Expanding facilities for nature lovers who wish to spend their days
with birds in their natural habitat of Chundikulam, an echo-friendly
Holiday Resort was declared open on Tuesday (03) in close proximity
to Chundikulam bird sanctuary by the Commander Security Forces Jaffna

stretches over 49.2 sq km on the northeastern coast of the island.
The landscape offers a striking view of the nature inhabited by

Div Organizes Medical Camp for Newly Resettled Villagers of Vadamarachchi

Sri Lanka Army is continuously assisting the civil administrative
authorities to develop infrastructure facilities of families newly
resettled in Vadamarachchi. In addition, troops of the 55 Division
serving in the area are working towards enhancing the economy, education,
health of the villagers and providing them with shelter under the
housing project of Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna. Recently
the Civil Affairs Office of the 55 Division organized a one day
medial camp for the people living in Kevil, Vettilaikerni and Kaddaikadu.
