1 Field Engineer Regiment of Sri Lanka Army Engineers are conducting awareness programe for school children in Jaffna peninsula about mines and unexploded ordinances (UXOs). 51 and 52 divisions in Jaffna Peninsula as per the instructions of the Commander SF (J) coordinated this programme.

    This programe included educating the students about various types of mines and UXOs, which they might come across accidentally if they entered into the areas specified as un cleared. In addition, they were educated about the dangerousness of these items and what action to be taken if they found any of these items. Many items such as FFE (Free From Explosives) were displayed to the students and teachers.

    During the past, many accidental explosions took place in the peninsula for being not aware about the dangerousness of these items and most of the victims were students. As an immediate precautionary measure, the Commander SF (J) launched this programe. More than 3000 students including teachers’ took part in this programe from various schools. At the end of the session, the teachers and students appreciated the army for conducting this programme for them. The schools and the list of participants’ gender vice as mentioned below
